With the public vote for #VOOM 2016 closing this week and the Pitchathon about to start, we got to thinking about this time last year and how we at Fourex found the process. Was there anything we would have changed? What worked for us and the other fantastic brands we were lucky enough to be alongside as we got to Pitch to Rich? So we decided to run through what worked best for us and our other friends from the final. Below are some of the top tips we would recommend to the class of 2016, from those who have been in their shoes.

Keep it simple

Jeff Paterson, Fourex:

Keep it short, light and get their attention. Don’t put them to sleep.

Anthony Eskinazi, JustPark:

Pick one strong angle and go at it hell for leather!

Make a few points really well rather than rattling through a hundred at breakneck speed, you want the judges to remember your points.

Kiryl Chykeyuk , Kino Mo:

Choose two or three most credible facts and focus on them

Dan Cluderay, Approved Foods:

Don't second guess or change your pitch to compete with others.

Research your audience

Gem Misa, Caulirice:

Know  your panel and what their passions are that might be woven into your pitch.

Jeff Paterson, Fourex:

I researched the panel thoroughly and knew exactly what each judge was interested in

Be yourself

Dan Cluderay, Approved Foods:

Dont try to deliver a pitch that isnt natural to you.

Be yourself, you know your business and how you best perform.

Jeff Paterson, Fourex:

Smile, be engaging and authentic about your company and they will buy into it!

Don’t be scared to try something different

Jeff Paterson, Fourex:

Bring a prop! Something they can touch, play with that has your branding all over it.

Gem Misa, Caulirice:

I was given a great tip to video myself practicing my pitch- that way I was able to listen to how I sounded and change anything I didn't like before the day.

Kiryl Chykeyuk , Kino Mo:

Anything can work depending on how you do it

Practise makes perfect

Anthony Eskinazi, JustPark:

The secret to a smooth pitch really isn’t much of a secret at all - it’s good preparation.

Kiryl Chykeyuk , Kino Mo:

The best tip I was given? Practicing, lots of practicing.

Gem Misa, Caulirice:

Practice practice practice til you know all your facts and the flow of your pitch by heart.

Dan Cluderay, Approved Foods:

Way before the day, face your nerves and pitch in front of people who make you cringe with embarrassment. Keep doing it until you don't cringe any more. Repeat!

Jeff Paterson, Fourex:

Definitely practise. I must have gone over my pitch a thousand times so that I knew it inside out.

Being part of the #VOOM experience in itself is amazing and we have no doubt from the many interesting and passionate businesses taking part in the public vote that the next stage will be just as exciting this year.
